Chest Protector For Motocross

A motocross chest protector is a piece of safety equipment designed to take the impact of a blow to the rider’s chest, back, and shoulders, either from collision with something, or from debris coming off a rider in front of him. The chest protector can be worn under a driving suit or jacket, or on top of it, depending on the driver’s preference. This will probably be required gear if you will be racing.
The motocross chest protectors come in many styles and shapes, and in a variety of different materials. Some have pads which also extend down to protect the elbows. Some common types of manufacture use foam, mesh, and plastic, in various ways, to create comfortable padding for a driver. On the back, there is padding along vertebrae and spinal column.
The chest protectors also use mesh which will allow air to circulate on warm days, as they are made to fit close to the driver’s body for maximum protection in an impact. Some may look a bit like armor from Medieval times, but they are designed to be just that.
Buying Tips
Check around to see if there is a bike shop near your home where you can look at the chest protectors in person. Because there are so many brands and styles, it is best to try them on before buying if possible. You will not be able to tell just by looking at them if they will feel comfortable to you or not, and this is something to consider if you have to buy it online.
Most chest protectors are constructed by padding attached to straps, which can be loosened or tightened with Velcro to accommodate the driver’s exact size. Also check to see if it will fit under your jacket or not. If you purchased your jacket first, it may be too small to wear a chest protector underneath. You need to determine how you will be wearing it before you buy it.
Just because they are safety gear doesn’t mean they won’t look good. Chest protectors come in many styles and colors. Some look so good you may never want to wear it under your suit. You may be able to find one with the colors of your suit or racing team. But don’t be bamboozled into buying one that doesn’t fit you well because of the color. Try it on, move your arms around, get the feel of it, then step in front of the mirror. It is more important that it fits good and doesn’t slide around, than how it looks.
Like any piece of safety equipment, it will come at a price. Buy a chest protector that has the best fit and protection for your needs that you can afford. Quality is more important than saving a few dollars for a lesser model.
